Pre Assessment
Collaborate with the client to understand their objectives, organizational structure, critical assets, and specific concerns regarding cybersecurity. Clarify the goals of the Red Team Simulation, whether it's to assess detection and response capabilities, test incident response procedures, or evaluate the effectiveness of security controls.
Scope Definition
Identify the critical assets, infrastructure components, and data repositories within the internal network that are within the scope of the penetration test. Establish rules of engagement, including permissible testing activities, testing windows, and communication protocols to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
Reconnaissance
Perform network discovery to map the internal network topology, identify active hosts, and enumerate available services and protocols. Enumerate and profile internal assets, including servers, workstations, network devices, and applications, to identify potential attack vectors and points of entry.
Testing & Exploitation
Conduct vulnerability scanning and assessment of internal systems and services to identify known vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and weak points in the security posture. Attempt to exploit identified vulnerabilities to gain unauthorized access, escalate privileges, or exfiltrate sensitive data from internal systems and networks.
Remediation & Report
Generate a detailed technical report outlining the methodology, findings, exploitation techniques, and proof-of-concept demonstrations for each identified. Provide an executive summary highlighting key findings, risk assessment, and actionable recommendations for improving internal network security posture.
Retest
Once the remediation has been completed, the tester may conduct a retest to verify that the vulnerabilities have been successfully addressed and that the internal network is now secure.
